Buy a thousand cheap cellulose guitar picks instead. They're lights and just as flammable.

I've never seen the striker done like that before, and it makes PERFECT sense! Well done!

Great idea! Just made a few of those packed with fine fat wood shavings, good way to keep tinder dry. Really digging the content!

Nice one. Knew this with vaseline. Coconut oil sure smells better.Good detail cleaning the inner end with the q-tip so the plastic will melt together.

If you use the clear straws then you could see whats inside, depending on the size of the straw many OTC medications(low dose asprin, etc) could fit.

At least you still have plastic straws. Can't get half way through my drink before those paper straws are soggy and clogged. I have used the same method to pack small amount of spices for camping.

I use melted Vaseline (via MW in coffee cup) and then soak cotton balls in the melted Vaseline. Then I store in a baggy or Rx bottle … then when it comes time to start a fire I’ll pull one cotton ball out and stretch out to about the size of a baseball. I always carry a “striker” to light the ball and it will burn easily for ~5 minutes while adding kindling and subsequently larger pieces of wood.

Dental cotton rolls covered in wax. Better than anything else I've tried or seen and completely waterproof. It's also cheap to make. Melt wax, put dental roll in, remove. Burn time of around 6 minutes per tiny little roll.

This is awesome! I’ve used cotton balls and Vaseline as fire starters most of my life, but I’ve never seen a straw used as a container.

I just have a small screw top tin filled with cheap wax balm and a bunch of cotton balls. Easier to mess with and no prep time and can be used for multiple different things other than fire starting.

What model leatherman? Thanks. I use straws but with cotton and petroleum jelly. Carry a couple in my pocket all the time.

Coconut oil is a quite expensive option when petroleum jelly can be used
