Do you train outdoors?

It might seem like a gimmick, but give it a try and youโ€™ll find you ache in places you didnโ€™t know you had!

Thereโ€™s a good reason for this! You have probably done thousands of reps of push ups, bench press, and squats during your fitness journey. Every single one of those is near-enough identical.

But do a push up outdoors and things change. The floor might be a slight gradient, meaning youโ€™re engaging slightly more or less of the delta. You might find one hand is higher than the other, forcing you to readjust the way you brace your core.

And then youโ€™ll need to breathe through the biting cold, or the scorching heat. Every SINGLE set of push ups will be different and you will literally be training connective tissue and motor patterns that havenโ€™t been tested before.

This is a mild example. Itโ€™s far MORE true for pull ups from tree branches, overhead presses with logs and branches, trail running, tree climbingโ€ฆ

The world outside is not FLAT and is not predictable. Movement should not be binary.

None of this is even to mention the fact you have more space to run and jump and throw when youโ€™re outside. Or that being outside means greater sensory stimulation and beautiful views.

Get in a few outdoors workouts and try experimenting with tools like medicine balls, kettlebells, Bulgarian bags, sandbags, etc. to further facilitate this type of training.

Have fun!

I dont tell much people about this, they try to make me seem weird. In the end i know itโ€™s just people have fear of adventure. Props to you for throwing this out there

It's sad how few people listen to Adam's excellent advice and incorporate it into their training.

I love running in the snow or when it's ridiculously hot. Last year or the year before when we had THE HOTTEST DAY IN THE UK EVER. I took a day holiday and went for a long trail run, and when I went to Turkey I mistakenly thought there would be a gym at the hotel so I was doing circuits up and down the hotel most days, much to the amusement of the other guests. I had brought my skipping rope and very much regretted not taking my gymnastics rings. (I very nearly packed them too!)

Training outdoors has another benefit: You get used to people giving you weird looks for doing something thats beneficial. This can help you to think outside the box.

Just feeling the connection with the creation is awesome. But when you interact with the creation you become awesome.

Hell yeah. Unfortunately the lowest redwood branches are a little too high to reach! But there are a few other species around.
