I ended up swapping baking powder (for baking soda) and adding sour cream to balance the pH, and the cake is beautiful. I show you every step to make this cake here: www.sugarologie.com/recipes/no-dye-black-cake

I really need to get my hands on some black cocoa because goth cake is definitely exactly what has been missing from my life.

If you didn’t want to mess too much with the recipe by adding sour cream, you could use cream of tartar instead, which is just a powdered acid.

I really love hearing you talk about cakes and baking while relating it to chemistry. I can understand baking much better somehow.

Something I really learned to appreciate is the science behind food… changes everything on a dish when you learn and master the science behind how things interact with one another ❤❤
Good job on the cake

As someone who works service desk in IT, it's so cool to see how people effectively troubleshoot their line of work.

Holy friiick as someone with a black themed cafe I've been trying to work with black cocoa for many menus and not everything works together so your content really helps me save a bunch of time. Thanks a lot ❤❤

THIS is the kind of chemistry I need in my life!!! You know how in high school, you’re like “but WHY do we need to know all this?” Now we know why!

Thank you! I, amateur baker, can now stop my attempts to make a black-cake-with-pink-frosting. Silly me has been trying to add food coloring to dark chocolate cake, but failed miserably: ended up with black tongue, stained teeth and awful aftertaste. 😅😅

There is something about your voice that satisfies me so much, it hits a part of my brain that releases dopamine or something haha. I watch a lot of these baking type videos but the second I hear your voice I’m like “my girl!”

More baking videos need to be like this; Great job describing how different ingredients can change the bake based on chemical reactions! Understanding how the base ingredients work creates a good knowledge base that in turn allows freedom to experiment

I like how you find the problem research to get to the bottom of it by finding the cause and if you can find a solution while also educating your audience on it step by step giving them the knowledge they need to succeed in the kitchen 🧠📖🤓👩
