It's a 4 cylinder 220d. It doesn't have that "inherent" imbalance.
I had several OM617s, notably a 1983 300d turbo and a 1981 300D NA (which had the tubo revisions to increase lower end strength). Neither of them "danced" to this degree, the oil filler cap simply hovered on the oil fill (probably about 5psi blowby, sourced from my ass). I'd call that about 14-20psi blowby on the 220; while still in spec, the engine is certainly worn.
While blowby is a fact of life with diesels, this is excessive. Usable, but excessive.

as someone with 3 Mercedes diesels... yeah no this int true, i could pull a 85 from the factory floor and it will dance, the 5 cylinder will always have an inherent imbalance causing this "jumping around"
