Time-lapse of basil plant
AeromatiCo food composter
Houston, TX

Shown are 2 identical basil plants. I bought them both from Lowe's and planted them in identical containers of organic potting soil. I watered the basil on the left with water only, but I’ve been watering the basil on the right with liquid compost I make with my AeromatiCo food composter.

Everyday I collect my kitchen scraps in a bucket that I leave next to my kitchen sink. Along with all of my vegetable scraps, I also compost coffee grinds, coffee filters, tea bags, and egg shells. Once a day I dump this bucket into my AeromatiCo compost bin that I keep in my garage. The compost bin is filled with 50 gallons of water and is aerated and mixed with an industrial air pump. Everyday I fill my watering container with the compost liquid and water my gardens. I use up to 25 gallons of compost liquid a day and just refill the compost bin with the same amount of water I used. It’s that easy. Oh, and the best part is that there is no bad smells and no nasty maggots. The composting process is fully aerobic thanks to billions of aerobic bacteria, flagellates, ciliates, rotifers, and beneficial bacterial feeding nematodes. The liquid compost inoculates the soil with these microbes to create diverse living soil.

The basil was planted in 30 gallon cloth pots the following potting soil mix: 32% worm castings, 30% peat moss, 30% expanded shale, 5% biochar, 0.9% neem cake, 0.9% kelp meal, 0.8% ground oyster shell, and 0.4% gypsum powder.
