From the 1960s to the 1990s, the Dutch Rijkspolitie (State Police) famously used Porsche cars, starting with the Porsche 356 and later the iconic Porsche 911, for highway patrol. These high-performance cars were chosen for their speed, handling, and reliability, crucial for enforcing traffic laws on the growing network of highways. The Porsches were easily recognizable with their distinctive white and orange livery, and some models even featured open Targa roofs, allowing officers to stand and signal drivers. Equipped with radios, sirens, and blue lights, the Porsches gave the police an edge in pursuing speeders and maintaining safety. By the mid-1990s, they were replaced by more cost-effective patrol cars, but they remain iconic and highly prized by collectors.
