As a welsh person i would like to say thank you for saying this! All the time people say Welsh doesnt make sense and it has always angered me because welsh is intuititively easy for children especially
And the "it makes no sense" logic has driven many away from trying

I recognized this a couple years ago when I(someone who’s dyslexic) started learning Latin and it’s very predictable spelling. Never had trouble in spelling and reading Latin ever compared to learning to read and write in English.

Fun Fact: Dyslexia isn't just the inability to read. It's the inability to process languages properly. It includes, but not limited to, reading and writing and language pricessing such as phonetic sound comprehension, and much much more. Dyslexia is a spectrum and each symptom or trait is different in each individual. There are multiple types of dyslexia and most have 1 or more types. So reading isn't the issue, It's the language processing itself.
Dyslexia is part of the neurodivergent community.

I wonder how does dyslexia present in chinese communities and the like. How does a non romanized writing system affect the diagnosis of dyslexia?

I’m Italian and my little brother is disgraphic, so I know the ambience. In Italy the very big reason why it’s recorded less dyslexia it’s because there’s a lot of stigma. Sadly the Italian education system is half the old way, in which if you student have this kind of problem, older parents or also the vast majority of teachers will call you dumb and/or lazy.

I’ve seen some changes in mindsets in this decade. So, there’s still a big judgement on this.

Anyway, have a nice day🌟

This hit true as a dyslexic german student. In english, numbers like 27 are read "twenty seven", but in german they're read "seven twenty". My dyslexia causes me difficulty reading and writing numbers because I'll often read them backward, but in german, backward is actually correct, and I have no problem reading, speaking, and writing them.

i'm not dyslexic but i do have dyscalculia and i actually find that i experience something similar. in my native language i have a whole other set of numbers that i regularly mix up compared to english. how i struggle to do math also changes depending on the language used. it's pretty fascinating.

The fact is that Whole Language teaching of doesn't work, the research it was based on was bunk and the original researchers have admitted that phonics is the superior method of teaching reading, even with a less phonetically consistent language like English. Remember, we evolved speech naturally, writing was designed. We process words through sounds, even when reading silently our brain activates the auditory sections

this is so true, i have 3 native languages which i learnt as a toddler (welsh, cantonese, english) and i find reading chinese and english so much harder than welsh, even though i have a lot of practice with english and not welsh. i can barely even read chinese efficiently enough to be worth it, though, even if it's a language i've knows since before i could walk

I actually have a few cousins in Wales who are dyslexic, all of whom opted to go to Welsh language schools over English lamguage schools. The rumour was that the Welsh language exam boards were more lenient but this makes more sense

Well that answers something I’ve been wondering for a while now.

I’m Welsh and dyslexic. Like most people in Wales, my first language is English. However, when I started learning Welsh later in life, I found it much easier to spell and read.
