Tariffs are paid by the American companies that import the goods. These companies then raise prices to offset. We then pay more because of those tariffs.

Thanks Ai voice! But you failed to mention trump has literally no clue what a tariff is:
A tariff is a tax on imports, the American companies that import things have to pay a tariff, which ultimately raises the cost of the goods for the consumer.
The only benefit for tariffs is when you want to help American companies compete by making it easier for them to compete, however unless you have American manufacturing infrastructure in place for those companies to actually compete to begin with, all you are doing is increasing the cost of consumer goods with really no benefit to your economy, nor a trade war advantage. Furthermore, once tariffs are imposed you start a trade war, which is not easy to just back out of- if you take away tariffs on your imports, the other has no reason to take away theirs.
Across the board 10-20% tariffs would literally be disastrous and inflationary.
Trump doesn’t understand how tariffs work, he seems to think it’s a tax on China.
