If someone needs advice on how to put tinder on a fire, they probably aren't smart enough to be around fire

Thank you for addressing this! Too many people spend time constructing complicated fire layouts that utilize subpar materials and are inflexible. This style has served me well and addresses one of the number one issues with fire starting which is materials being on the ground and not pre-drying larger pieces of wood!!! 👍

I have been camping on my own building fires for over 20 years. First went out at 5 in the backyard overnight with my Amstaff came Corso mix.
Best method I have ever used as follows.

Medium sized wood first as a base. Preferably split and dry.
Then your starter tinder, be it fat wood dry grass birch bark dry spruce needle's, or feather sticks. Even dry cow shit. Then your small split kindling or try branches, preferably spruce.

You wanna do this in a grid pattern, the TP method sucks.
Leave a very small 1cm cap between your kindling as you stack it on the starter you want the flames to come through.

Also, be patient, if you smother it the fire doesn't just starve for air, but the heat ends up being sucked up by the extra wood ontop.
Fire is a chemical reaction, moisture and mass slow it down. At least small scale.

Also called a backstop, backrest, or barrier, what it does is lift the tinder and kindling to allow airflow into the fire on both sides...and as we all should know by now, fire requires a triangle of things: heat (the sparks/flames), fuel (firestarter, tinder, kindling, etc), and oxygen (air).

Don't push down with your knife instead pull the rod back you have more control over where the sparks go

In Florida, making a fire is easy. Believe it or not, there's lots of bamboo all over Florida near beaches and some wooded areas. Use dry dead bamboo for kindling. Breaks really easy. Use dried up palmetto leaves as a starter. No lighter fluid or gas necessary. Not even fat lighter. And you can light it with 1 match. Goes up quick and you can add heavier pieces of wood as the fire grows.

Bic. Backup bic. Backup to the backup bic. And finally, Wendy's spicy chicken, large fries, diet coke (got to watch the old waste line), maybe side chili, and if room: a single w/ l t m k. Yum yum. Oh, you need my bic?

Lots of dry grass in the back also to get the fire bigger! 😂😂

Serious question. How is keeping flint or whatever that was to get sparks better than just having lighters and matches?
