The Wii U gamepad was directly connected to the console. No internet was required. The distance wasn't large, maybe 30 feet max, but it was a perfect experience with no lag. The Portal is dependent on the PS5 but is not directly connected as it needs internet to work. While that means you can play "anywhere" (with WiFi access) its very susceptible to lag and other issues resulting from WiFi.

The cap for this device is legendary. That gameplay was really choppy at the coffee shop. Also if you have a tablet at home or a phone like 100% of the world. You can remote play using that.

how to pay $199 for a device that does something your phone could do at no extra cost. we’ll market it as the new “psp” only for the play on words, and require that you own the console in addition to having wifi to even be able to use. even sony fails to impress anyone nowadays.

Input lag kills this device comparing it to handhelds. If they could implement cloud streaming so there’s no need to stream from the console, then it would be night and day

I believe the issue the Portable has is latency and wifi connection. Because over all you're just streaming the game to the thing. The idea sounds neat, but when put to the test? Well doesn't execute.

If you try and use a public wifi the a splash page for logging in, it quickly becomes a paper weight
