On a recent Friday morning, our Volunteer Coordinator, Maura Daly, took part in her first Buddhist Relief outing, teaming up with Community Partnerships Coordinator Anne Kanengeiser for our bi-monthly delivery to Miriam’s Kitchen. We provided 524 lbs of produce, herbs, and condiments including: sweet potatoes, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, poblano peppers, avocado, parsley, cilantro, and specially requested items: spring onions, ginger garlic paste and minced ginger, capers and sun-dried tomatoes.

Chef Cheryl and Volunteer Manager Martha Wolf showed us the kitchen and introduced us to Sous Chef Brian.

He realized who we were, how much and what we were bringing, and said he was so grateful that we procure items that they can’t get easily from their suppliers… ingredients that allow them to make the wonderful dishes they provide for their guests.

We asked Chef Cheryl what she was going to make this week with the sun-dried tomatoes, spring onions and capers, and she said Mongolian Beef! She loves sourcing recipes that will surprise and excite her guests, and that give them a feeling of home.

Martha Wolf was very welcoming and interested to hear Maura’s perspective as Volunteer Coordinator for both KPC Buddhist Temple and Buddhist Relief. They were happy to share their experiences and will continue their connection.

Anne met with Emma Dileas, a Case Manager, to discuss clothing items—T-shirts, overalls, and hoodies—that Buddhist Relief will be bringing in our next delivery. We also discussed their needs for the upcoming cold months: backpacks, sleeping bags, long-sleeve T-shirts, blankets, socks, hats, gloves, scarves, as well as hoodies and sweatshirts.

Jetsunma Ahkön Lhamo, founder of Buddhist Relief, teaches us to always ask more of ourselves. We appreciate our donors helping us to feed people and provide warmth for a better quality of life.

The need is great so please join us by becoming a Friend of KPC Buddhist Relief: www.kpcbuddhistrelief.org/friend
