✍Great Characters
1) Strong motivation and desire
2) Obstacles in the way of their goals
3) Change over the course of the story ✍

Got it thanxπŸƒβ€β™‚

The exception of course is the complete badass that just walks through enemies like it's nothing. EG James Bond.

This reminds me of Goal, Motivation, and Conflict, a concept I discovered in a book of the same name from the 90s. It was written by this woman named Debra Dixon, and now that I know about it, o see it everywhere.

I really like how this guy says the facts of writing and not the opinion of writing. SO many people only spit out bias and sell it as fact. Don't get me wrong art is in the eye of the beholder but every great artist needs to understand the bare bones of shapes and color theory just like a musician needs to know the different cords and how to read music. We writers need to know these three basic things about characters because the characters at the end of the day are the most important thing. It's interesting to me how newer writers do easily confuse the factual for there personal bias.

Really enjoy your videos btw. Do you possibly have one about different character archetypes? I'm trying to get back into writing and seeming to struggle with this a little bit where as I didn't before.

Even though characters with no character arc can be great (Uncle Iroh is the best example I can think of) they are really meant to be side characters most of the time

Does the character change have to always be for good or can they end up worse than before

what about a character that doesn’t have a motivation, rather, life (or the story/plot) comes at them, and they deal with it?

Paksenarrion, of The Deed of Paksenarrion, has relatively weak motivations until the end of the series, and yet I read that trilogy over and over.

Amateur here and im commenting this midway video. People hate filler content but at the same time also hate flat character with no character arc. But if i write character arc of side character that my main arc have no time to show (which made them flat), than people will say its filler and slow the pace of my story down. How do I get this issue over?
