Not to forget to rest properly, many overtrain which results in slower growth and studies show that you may even lose size.

I would rather talk in terms of effort rather than sets, because you can do pretty shitty big amount of sets and nothing really will come out of it. Effort is what you're looking for. You NEED to "ruin" yourself during training. 1,2 RIR repetitively.

Been working out with this high set routine and never gained notable mass. BUT WHEN I STARTED THE MIKE MENTZER ROUTINES. BAM. THST WAS THE GAME CHANGER! And I’m 60 years old!!!

If someone doesn't grow off of 12-15 sets, they are doing it wrong. The people that do 3-4+RIR MAYBE 20 sets. I know plenty of advanced lifters hitting around 8 sets per muscle, and they are indeed growing.

A blanket statement of 10-20 sets per week is poor advice, IMO.

I would argue the more advanced you are, the less sets you need.
