Yosef was released from Potiphar's prison on Rosh Hashanah, marking the start of the Egyptian exile. This event is also seen as symbolizing the release of the Divine Spark within each Jew on Rosh Hashanah. Throughout the year, the soul is bound by the physical body and its desires, but on Rosh Hashanah, it is spiritually freed.

Yosef's commitment to moral purity, as demonstrated by his resistance to Potiphar's wife's advances, serves as a model for this spiritual liberation. Achieving purity involves three steps, likened to the stages of circumcision (bris milah): 1) Removing the outer layer, 2) Pulling back the membrane, and 3) Releasing the blood. This process represents freeing the soul in our minds from all barriers to spiritual growth.
