its been decades since i stoped android dev so im sure it became easier now.
but back then, xml was used to style gui elements.
and since im from a webdev background, xml styling felt to me like a a very poorman's version of css.
like its so bad i hate it so much that whenever i needed to make an android app based anything, i make it a point to just use the android web browser thingie just so i could avoid xml styling.
that or id use the heck out of images. id rather have image links that might break instead of use xml styling.
that or id use unreal or unity.
just anything to avoid xml styling
(its 100% skill issue i know)

As a user, I also dislike mobile apps. For cameras, games, and some professional apps, they’re fine. But why should I install an app when everything can be done through a web browser?

Hahah so true. Building mobile apps is headache, time consuming, building a product to put on an other businesses shelf aka app store etc

I usually don't write apps (more of systems programming guy, C/C++/Rust/ASM) but when I do, I usually do using native system APIs or libraries. And one thing I can say for sure is that it's much more effiicient, can work out much better with the mobile platform APIs because you have access to lot more features, etc

when website will be as good on mobile and it will have the features of the app, then sure. But it usually is not the case, and websites are too cramped on mobiles

Because people spend more time on their phones than on the computer.
I am also more proficient on web development but there are some products that benefit from having a native mobile app
