I think the fact that kids from marginalized groups opted to not submit test scores when it would have helped them goes to show how little institutional trust there is in elite universities. I think the growing perception is that they are shallow in how they evaluate students and extremely lenient towards nepotism. I think everything from that admissions scandal in 2019, to sffa v Harvard (regardless of your opinion on that), etc have really eroded people’s trust that they will get a fair shake from these universities.

I think at the very least it will at least keep people from applying to 25+ schools. It was getting out of hand imo. Either you have a dream school or you don’t. People who apply to every single top 25 school just need their ego stroked. You can’t genuinely say you have always wanted to go to MIT, Columbia and Duke, there are fundamental differences among all of these types of schools so they can’t all be a perfect fit.

Howdy hi hi,
I am a big fan of gathering as much information as possible prior to making a decision such as college admissions. But it can not be overstated that the information alone will not achieve the goals stated. Information of this type can only act as a filter, and even then only if it is applied in the right ways.
Diversity is a complex issue when applied to college admissions. This is because from the pool of applicants. Some will have had more access to effective learning tools, competent teaching staff, well stocked resources such as libraries. When some have more privilege than others. Yes, your filters may well correctly identify those most likely to do well. But is that a fair standard to apply?
I say, in this age of the internet. That all colleges be required to admit any and all who apply. Just like with the schools that are compulsory in nature. And then make these universities responsible for ensuring that all of their students do well and learn the material and skills. There is no reason whatsoever to deny anyone admission in this day and age.
