Gyrocopters and gyroplanes have been around for almost a century.

This one appears to be a Benson B-8, a widely-used home kit.

My dad had one, and flew it for years.

This person looks like they weren’t trained right. While gaining experience, use a longer runway; use basic techniques; stay out of windy conditions; get “stick time” on short take offs and landings; practice ground rolls; and, leave the selfie-stick at home.

Short of those things, it’s a recipe for a crash.

Done right, and it’s an exciting and reliable machine.

That guy is a pilot and doesn’t know what an auto gyro is?

I remember when I saw an auto gyro for the first time. I was 10 years old and I couldn’t believe my eyes. Dude was doing touch and gos on a frozen lake in upstate NY. I’ve been in aviation for almost 30 years now and I still think they’re awesome!

From my understanding of gyro copters they first must build up enough top rotor rpm to create the lift required, and forward speed from the rear engine thrust propeller is the engine that keeps that rotor rpm constantly in the lift mode. The more forward speed the more the lift, the less the forward speed the loss of lift or loss of altitude. I see a lack of forward speed here that prevents the needed lift, resulting in this accident. Most people practicpe great lengths of time the run ups or practice take offs just short of actually flying, getting a good handle of the speed needed to achieve flight. This would require a field not in use or long large desert areas where there is plenty of room for error, with no obstruction or civilians in the area. This is not a self taught skill, and I would school with organizations that have 2 seat models to train on, by very experienced pilots.

Looks like a Benson gyrocopter. A gyrocopter instructor once told me that the most common mistake new gyro pilots make is overreacting when the copter leaves the ground. Once the rotor builds up enough speed to gain lift, the copter lifts off pretty quickly. A lot of new pilots panic and jam the stick forward , slamming back into the ground.
This guy would probably have been fine if he'd allowed it to do it's thing.

It is in Turkey, Turkish flag on the aircraft and an old Renault made in Turkey in the background.

It’s not an experimental aircraft. It’s called a gyrocopter and they have been around since the 60s. If you are a Sean Connery bond fan you might know this because it was used in a bond movie. The bond movie was “You only live twice”
