Portland has its problems for sure. I don't like seeing all of the trash, tents, people sleeping on the ground, or the consequences of addiction. It has some issues in common with most urban areas and some issues unique to Portland. There is work to be done, and I wouldn't argue there isn't - particularly downtown as the video mentions.
BUT, I just don't think it's some hellish dystopian nightmare that's burning to the ground like some people claim. I've been exploring the city a lot lately, and there are a lot of areas that are growing and thriving. I've found a lot of small businesses to support. I've met a lot of artists who are able to make careers out of their work here. There's a lot this city has to offer, but not everyone is able or willing to cope with the bad to enjoy the good. That's completely valid and understandable. I'd love to see some things improved. I disagree with certain actions/inactions of the local government. But I'm not having difficulty finding beauty here.

Maybe we should keep Mike Schimdt as DA, Ted Wheeler as Mayor and make sure the commissioners are Progressive and... yeah.
This is the land of defund the police, decriminalize drugs and homeless advocate orgs that are clueless.
Voters, get your sh*t together. Demand your streets back and vote in some common sense for a change. It's a beautiful city full of great people. We just need some real leaders and voters that live on Earth.

Portland citizen for 34years now. I can’t imagine a better place to live. I’ve done a great deal of traveling over the last 34 years, and always was so happy to be back in the city of roses.
