Portland has its problems for sure. I don't like seeing all of the trash, tents, people sleeping on the ground, or the consequences of addiction. It has some issues in common with most urban areas and some issues unique to Portland. There is work to be done, and I wouldn't argue there isn't - particularly downtown as the video mentions.
BUT, I just don't think it's some hellish dystopian nightmare that's burning to the ground like some people claim. I've been exploring the city a lot lately, and there are a lot of areas that are growing and thriving. I've found a lot of small businesses to support. I've met a lot of artists who are able to make careers out of their work here. There's a lot this city has to offer, but not everyone is able or willing to cope with the bad to enjoy the good. That's completely valid and understandable. I'd love to see some things improved. I disagree with certain actions/inactions of the local government. But I'm not having difficulty finding beauty here.

We stayed in an AirBnB last year near the rose garden. It was fine for the 4 days we were there. Maybe downtown is different but don't think you can't visit and enjoy the place.

Also live in Oregon, but usually its pretty calm for me, dont see too many homeless, it's because i live in the suburbs and dont have to go to big cities often, if you want to enjoy the place i'd suggest doing that

We did a family road trip to Portland in 2008 and it was lovely back then. Sorry to see it's turned into a cesspool.

Portland citizen for 34years now. I can’t imagine a better place to live. I’ve done a great deal of traveling over the last 34 years, and always was so happy to be back in the city of roses.
