Note: this is a TRAINING drone.there are no sensor equipment on it. Also only certified drone operators are capable of flying the real thing ,, hence, this drone in video is maybe $500.

That $250k drone cost about $150 to manufacture but there’s absolutely no price gouging going on by defense contractors. Nothing to see here.

They are built to break like that on landing I believe

This is a RQ-20 "Puma" It costs 250k for 3 aircraft and 2 ground control stations. So each aircraft comes out to around 40-50k. These differ from civilian drones as it does not use normal civilian spectrum bands and internal electronics, thus increasing survivability in combat. The camera is also significantly better than cheap small drones and it can be upgraded to vertical take off and landing. As well as starlink capability in order to operate and receive video and data from anywhere in the world. Also, it is designed to be crash landed. The wings will break off on landing. Although it is advisable to land on grass, or not nose dive into the ground haha.

The cost of one RQ-20 Puma unit, which includes three drones and two ground stations extra batteries and charging station two repeaters and 3 remote controls with manual or autonomous controls and are able to maintain signal in heavy ew environments the unit is about $250,000 they could fly for 3 to 4 hours. And are easily maintained wings are able to be separated on Landings or crashes so they don't snap in half the Optics are in a cushioned housing with a hard outer casing to protect from elements or impacts

That’s not a 250k drone unless you’re paying in rubles.

It actually is designed to come apart like that if you notice it has no wheels. Now if I would operate this puma I would want to land on something softer or finagle it to a lower inertia landing. All and all that was pretty standard landing for RQ20. And the price for this kit is not cheap but if you take in to account that it uses specialized equipment range finders, IR laser, pretty good cameras specialized communication equipment “Military grade”. The price ticks up. But if you ever had your hands on kit like that you would have 3 actual air frames, about 4 payload options probably another set or two of wings and stabilators… 2 controller stations a mission computer several options to charge batteries you would need a van just to contain this one system. With the markup yes it Sound about right 250k. Don’t compare this with commercial drones or UAV they would not stand a chance against EW, gps spoofing, if civilian drone is captured it will instantly reveal information about operator unlike RQ20.

That is an AeroVironment Puma. I was trained as a pilot on those in 2013. Hand-launching like that is a pain in the butt, especially at high altitudes on hot days. They are designed to come apart like that (the wing, body, and horizontal "stabilator" on the tail) on a gliding landing, but that one looks like it may have been landing WITH the wind instead of INTO the wind, as we were trained. Normally, the pilot "pops" the aircraft (you can see it in the video when the camera loses focus) by turning off the engine about 100 meters from "home" and glides in. The pilot has left/right control on the way down, but no engine. Sometimes, under the right conditions and altitude, the pilot can restart the engine, climb out, and do a "go-around" if it looks like it will be a bad landing. The payload is tucked into the fuselage behind the front skid pad for landings and takeoffs. When it reaches stable flight the pilot deploys the camera and sensors via the control pad, then retracts it for landing. All in all, it was a pretty good platform, but the agency I work for decided to go with advanced quadcopters after I wrote a White Paper on the benefits of the quads' operational flexibility over the Puma.
