The only thing that messes people up is that Neopolitan Major has a major sixth and doesn't refer to the 3rd.
I love this scale. It's 7th mode is one of the darkest Locrian modes with that bb7 and bb3

You have to listen to Arabic Oud. This is a very common scale, and since you are playing fretless guitar the difference would be very small.
