You can us a 1440p monitor, but you still have to play in 1080p. Thereās no 1440p resolution support, you can use a 1440p monitor if the monitor has 1080p compatibility.

TL;DR: They locked a bunch of features at launch and then made it available later. You were always able to install an SSD but you weren't able to access it. The same goes for everything else. Also he mentions 5 updates at the start but only lists 4 things, 1. SSD storage, 2. 1440p Support, 3. Variable refresh rate, 4. PS+ combining with PS Now.

variable refresh rate doesn't mean higher refresh rate like 120fps. It means it draws to the screen only when the PS5 wants it to. Reducing screen tearing. 120fps means 120fps. Vrr helps if the game can't lock at 120.
