A nurse was directed to give Midazolam ( a benzodiazepine sedative) to an anxious but conscious patient. The nurse accidentally injected Vecuronium a neuromuscular blocking agent and the patient died. This drug paralyzed muscles so the patient could not move, speak, blink and of course breathe. She could however think and be completely aware of what was happening until her death.
