It’s rated that way so that it won’t break when it hits that number. Think of it as insurance.

Not sure about the force, but when you install them, you want the rod-end to be down in the ‘normal’ position (opposite of your testing in the video). This is to ensure the oil inside lubricates the seal around the rod.

My guess would be poor quality control at the factory and they intentionally over pressurize them rather than under as that’s less likely to cause complaints. Plus they may “break in” some

The seals could be partially stuck on the rod, if so they should come loose pretty fast. Put the rod downwards and compress the spring a few times and see if there's a difference. Also, ask the place where you bought them from. As far as I know the spring should be labelled with the actual spring force, and a quick search says nothing else. If they don't break in, maybe your springs are for a special application or simply mislabeled. Last resort is to buy the springs from a place that knows their stuff... :) You will get help getting exactly the spring you need.

Likely speaking out of my ass here, but as those are for like opening hoods and stuff. the rating is likely the weight of the door it can open. Meaning it would require additional Force past the weight of the object

if you unscrew the eyelet on the bottom you should see a Shrader valve put a nail or sumin on the needle in the middle for a split second and test it again on the scale keep doing it until you get to the weight you need

This old Tony did a video all about those things. I don't know if it'll answer your question but it's a good place to start.

Rated at is just the Minimum force the strut will hold.
Is like Towing capacity on a vehicle .. rated at 3500 lbs .. but you can town 3600-3700 if needed.
Hope it helps 😂

from what i understood there is an initial breaking point that you have to get through. The lift rating is what those gas struts will lift, but you want it to hold solid.

Reason would say: Would you rather have something over built or under built?

I think theyll break in a bit over time

Easiest way to get your answer is to call the company lol not to say someone who may work for a company like this might know but thats what I'd do personally.

Contact force is probable 130 lbs. but as you strike it the pressure will rise and increase the pressure from that 130 lbs.

they probably gove you the safe load and are strogwr then needed

Go for 100lbs and live with it. It just means you have to add more pressure closing for a couple of years. Good luck!

The weight rating is for normal operation, the true failure point isnt advertised as to stop people pushing the limit to the breaking point.
