despite scoring super high for ADHD screening, my psychiatrist INSTANTLY dismissed any possiblity of a diagnosis because i was in grad school. Not saying I for sure have it, but feels really shitty that my doc wont even listen to my concerns about it

Adhd diagnosis’s are so problematic. The boys get overly diagnosed and end up not having it and the girls are under diagnosed and can’t get the help they need. I’m very lucky I was diagnosed young. It probably helped that it was known that my dad had it and because it can be genetic I was able to get diagnosed sooner. I got diagnosed when I was ten and I am now fourteen. Adhd is both a blessing and a curse.

we have the same problem with heart attacks in women because when doctors started studying it they only examined 30-60 year old men

same goes for autism jn women. They get diagnosed way later in life since it represents differently than men. They first discovered autism in men

I'm 34 and just getting diagnosed....in my area in school because I was good and got good grades they would have never diagnosed me. Honestly most of my teachers would be shocked that I've been diagnosed.

My mum said “you dont have ADHD its just how you act” and I begged to get tested. Got a test when I was 21 and out of the house, came back positive.

Sadly, when you look into some studies, even newer ADHD studies, so few women participate they can't get verifiable data. It ends up being more of a guess. 😢
