As mentioned in the other comment in the Doom Marine thing,
I think that there’s more than just human involvement, I believe that Barons Of Hell (which includes a few species) are the “bred” counterpart of hell knights, where hell knights seem to be more animalistic with digitigrade legs and less ability to spell cast, it’s known that Barons are used as guards and soldiers, and they’re smarter as a result, I think the dark lord and his people breed demons, as such, barons are “domesticated” by hell standards.

Doom 2's manual and the overall aesthetic of classic Doom Hell made cybernetic demons native to Hell.
2016 is what had the idea of them being manmade.
It's weird because in a reboot that exists to empower the protagonist, they could've gone with making Hell weirder and imply they only had tech to "parody" the fact that humans rely on tech or something like that.
And then there's Immora but it doesn't really have surrealism.

Cyber demon from 2016 is a weird example, the “tyrant” in doom eternal is the og cyber demon. Seems that uac tried recreating the native version, which of course kinda failed. Not to mention it’s connected to the og games 1, 2, and 64.

fun fact: not all spectres are man/sentinel made, in doom eternals codex entries, its stated that some are made that way through magic. this means that theres technically 2 types of spectres, both nearly identical besides orgin
