Beavers have rightly claimed a lot of accolades in the recent rewilding movement for their central role in restoring riparian areas. The dams they engineer create habitats, filter water and help mitigate flood damage and droughts. For degraded riparian areas devoid of trees and beavers, artificial structures called Beaver Dam Analogues (BDAs) are being used to mimic the effects of beaver dams. This is the case for our latest project in Scotland at Glassie Farm, a member of the Northwoods Rewilding Network (NRN). Habitat degradation, pollution and rising water temperatures are threatening a host of important native species. In partnership with River Revivers, we’re building BDAs and planting native trees and scrub to create habitat, help improve water quality, stabilise water temperature and mitigate flood damage.

I was thinking about how those trees were probably non native plantation and so were leaking tannins into the watershed? I bet that clearing was beneficial to create room for this new ecosystem but still seeing dead trees does bring a certain sorrow to the heart

Good work 👍 it's such a culture shock for this Canadian.... Very foreign to us....luckily we mostly avoided time when clear cutting rivers was culturally acceptable. I can't remember ever seeing a river clear cut like that... But we definitely under siege from never ending resource development and urban sprawl....luckily your river can be fixed !😌 I hope to see a future video when the otter 🦦 return

Hi Rob, Really enjoying updates on scotland projects and your enthusiasm and joy are contagious ! Just a small note: As a non-native speaker, I found you spoke really fast and it was a bit hard to follow at times so maybe just slow-down a little in the next video to help those of us who come from a different language. Thanks and keep up the good work !

Found some decent otter signs in my local patch. Massive fish scales, massive pike head, and massive law prints (pretty sure dog otter). Lucky to know some are around. Even though I never sen them! 😂
