The Pot Spider's AI specifically checks for a Gravity hit, not just a percent based hit. And if it detects it, it auto-kills itself. IIRC, the same thing happens for the Barrel Spiders as well
Gravity, Gravity Break, and Zantetsuken (Yes, that attack is legally Gravity) will thus always kill a Barrel and/or a Pot Spider.
