It's worth noting that basically all economics is theory. Austrian, full free market, theoretically works over the long term, based on the principles of free market. The problem is that this can take years, even decades, for a market to fully self correct without government influence. The governments job is to basically make the upswing and downswings less powerful, staying on the long term trend of the market growing.
