I imagine anyone who has been mixing for decades, especially in a professional environment with billable hours being a reality of the job, probably gets used to thinking so proactively that they start to take the internal process for granted simply because it's efficient. Decades of experience invested into making split-second decisions worth committing to.
There's real value in understanding that we are training our ears, production sensibilities, and familiarity with the mechanics of audio engineering, more than we are just learning to use software or move some sliders or values around.

Warren I asked you this about this many years ago. Your answer was the same as here. The reason I asked was because the band I was playing in and recording with, wanted everything Di so they could make the choice in the mix. Which I completely disagreed with. Now things have changed with what Sergio and I do. We use this technique.

Agree! I'm a one-man band/bedroom recorder, so just amateur, but, after a number of years, I've learned that, even while writing the song, I'll have an intent. A kind of style or styles the song is referencing; how I'm starting to hear it in my head, etc. And that informs the decisions I'll make while recording and mixing.

Beginners need to keep things really simple. Less processing. Less plugins. Most pros probably keep things even simpler than that! Get it sounding good on the way in. Putting fresh strings on that acoustic guitar will improve the sound more than a $5,000 mic and that's the truth! Getting to know the plugins you own will serve you far better than having millions of plugins. (Was probably Warren who taught me this. Watched him from the beginning.)

Warren and the whole Produce Like A Pro team is fantastic. I’ve learned so much from yall!
I’ve tried Rick Beato’s stuff and I just can’t get into it. Way too narrow minded and opinionated to for me to learn effectively.
I like how you present often complicated concepts and techniques while still encouraging people to experiment.
My sincerest thanks coming from southern Louisiana
(your proper British accent is incredibly engaging to me no matter what you say too hahahahah)
