Oh Man, I miss my Airedales even more now after seeing this clip ! The Welsh terrier is a more compact version of a Dale !!
Ive got a 10yo GoldenDale (Airedale & Golden retriever mix) now and he is a great companion, simply one of the best dogs ever. Smart, loyal, loving, and listens so well to us ! Basically a aim to please type of dog. Everything he does is to please is his pack mates !! We lost our second Dale 3 years ago ,and it still hurts not having him around ! Gunner was a tank of a Airedale ! That boy was a Oorang Oorang Airedale , and weighed in at 98 pounds in his prime. He was the runt of the litter too , his litter mates all were over 115 pounds except the females they were in the upper 80's to mid 90's . Our first Airedale was breed standard size and was amazing !! He loved adventures of any kind and was fearless. Jet skiing in Florida, motorcycle rides anywhere , bodysurfing waves in Rhode Island. treeing bears in our yard and boyOboy could he take down vermin quickly. But he was also smart enough to know cats were pets not prey ! But any rabbit, squirrels and even lighting fast chipmunks too, when he could catch them were fair game as were raccoons and opossums that messed with our garbage cans !! Very efficient hunter and his territory was critter free most if the time ! The squirrels did like to press their luck a lot though !
Anyways!
We'd love have another one again but our Goldendale has pancreatitis and his diet is something we need to monitor daily ! Having another dog wouldn't be fair to either one of them. The puppy would have to be isolated during their feeding times , and we couldnt leave their food out at all cause if the shared it wouldnt be the right diet for either of them. The food we have to buy for our Goldendale is prescribe and crazy expensive too !
So hopefully many more years from now, we'll share our home with two dogs again ! Of course we want another Airedale and it's pack mate this time will be a smaller version , a Welsh terrier ! Only issue I can see is explaining to everyone that they arent the same breed and arent a young/older dog combo, seeing how much they'll look like eachother ! I'm sure it will happen often too !!
