But since 2016, Indian FDA has banned the use of calcium carbide for ripening of fruits.
Artificial ripening of fruits by acetylene gas, commonly known as carbide gas is prohibited as per the provision in sub regulation 2.3.5 of Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulation,2011.
This ban was put in place to protect the health and safety of consumers, including pregnant women.
Buying organic mangoes , naturally ripened , from the reliable source or directly form local farmers , soaking them in water , washing properly and eating in moderation are the simple precautions you need to take rather than skipping mangoes completely with fear and missing on its huge nutritional profile for both baby and yourself.
