Diary of a Garden First-Yearer

“A real man doesn’t sing, dance or eat tomatoes” is just a little joke and a saying of my friend Norbert, who – oh my – doesn’t like tomatoes. I can’t imagine a garden without them, they are my favourite flavour of summer, next to green beans.

This year the weather has been playing tricks on us, not only here in the Beskids, but all over Poland. We had a very cold spring, my tomato seedlings were stretched and rickety, for a moment I thought they would be useless. What’s worse, I planted most of them without shading, so they looked even worse. On top of that, there was heat, drought, and shortages – and my soil isn’t the best.

In my vegetable garden, I try to reach for ecological solutions, so I chose Ekopomidor from Vegano – a liquid organic fertiliser NK 3.5-5.5, which perfectly suits my preferences. Just a few days after the first application, I saw my tomatoes come alive – they sprouted new leaves and flowers. I use it for all the vegetables in the garden and I am eagerly awaiting the first harvest.
