Many fruits, especially apples, are being coated with a chemical called APEEL. It helps increase the longevity of the fruit on the shelf but contains small amounts of heavy metals. Small amounts shouldn’t be harmful to one’s body, but it is yet to be seen if prolonged consumption causes issues. We are somewhat skeptical at the moment due to the known harmfulness of heavy metals and will keep you updated on any findings going forward.
If you don’t want to take the chance, just look for the APEEL label on fruits.
*Note: We searched all the fruit at this establishment and did not find the label on any of the produce. However, we do know that it is being applied to fruits in several countries.
