at least fmab doesn't punch you in the gut out of nowhere with this lol. you can tell things are going to be dark down the road. i made a mistake of watching puella magi madoka magica completely blind thinking it could cleanse my palate after watching fmab. oh cute magical girl anime, it's all pastels, i bet it's going to be all about friendship and sunshine and rainbows. i was wrong, episode 3 hit me like a truck.
but also it's not just anime, istg every kid's media have some sort of fucked-upness somewhere in there. have you not seen courage the cowardly dog??

Yes, this is what shows for kids are like in Japan. Wait until you get into One Piece, you're going to be absolutely astounded at how dark that can get, and it's even toned down from the manga in many places.
