Darth Jar Jar would have been great if they had the balls to make it real.
Literarily, it is an unfair comparison. Tolkien dedicated decades to polishing The Lord of the Rings. Which I think would be an unfair ask of Lucas.
Technologically, Gollum is just better, just the use of subsurface scattering and the animation work on Gollum is superior. I don't think there can be an argument on that front.
I never disliked Jar Jar as a character, I only hated the fact that supposedly competent leaders kept assigning him to positions of responsibility and power when he was clearly incompetent. Which would have been nicely explained by the Darth Jar Jar theory had they dared realize it.
