Speaking for myself I have to agree that rest, particularly sleep is vital for productivity. Problem that can sometimes arise is that if I'm not properly tired from a productive day, I can't sleep and then I'm tired again the next day which compromises my productivity again resulting in another poor night of sleep. Naps can be helpful but ultimately if I can just find something to do, even if it's not what I set out to do, the sense of accomplishment aids in a better night sleep. Then again sometimes that doesn't work either. So hey.

One thing I've found that helps is just setting a small 5 minute timer, seeing how much I can get done in those 5 minutes, and seeing how I go from there. I also try to remind myself that I don't have to have motivation to just do something that needs done. Music also helps, a lot.
