My guests in this episode are Dr. James Davis and Dr. Steve Waksman.
Dr. Davis is a professor of Musicology and Chair of the Music History Area at the School of Music at State University of New York at Fredonia.
His teaching interests include American Music, 18th- and 19th-century concert music, and the history of popular music. He is the founding Editor for The Teaching of Music History Series. He has published widely on these subjects. And his latest book is "Maryland, My Maryland: Music and Patriotism during the American Civil War".

Dr. Waksman is the Elsie Irwin Sweeney Professor of Music and Professor of American Studies; and Chair in American Studies at Smith College. His research and teaching interests range widely across the subjects of U.S. popular music and popular culture, with particular specialty in the study of live music, music genres, music technology and musical instruments... Particularly the guitar.

Dr. Waksman has published widely on these subjects, including "This Ain't the Summer of Love: Conflict and Crossover in Heavy Metal and Punk", which was awarded the 2010 Woody Guthrie Award for best scholarly book on popular music by the U.S. chapter of the International Association for the Study of Popular Music. His latest book is "Live Music in America: A History from Jenny Lind to Beyoncé".
