Here on southern Vancouver Island, we don't always have freezing temperatures during the winter, but our forecast says we may go as low as -8Β°C (17.6Β°F) overnight.
Luckily, our four hummingbird feeders have heaters on them so the birds can have sips of room temperature sugar water to keep them warm and alive overnight. Likewise, I feed my outdoor turtle shaped worm bin (Gilligan) an ample amount of food prior to a cold snap so his seed heating mat is supplemented with some gentle compost heat.
