If my name was Franz I'd rent a neglected taxi in Bavaria urging the driver to speed up, in the hope that someone ask me what I'm doing.

A much cooler one for English, btw, is "Sphinx of black quartz, judge my vow".

I always wondered what was the lazy fox equivalent of in German. I liked the second one the most

My favorite English Pangrams: Sphinx of black quartz, judge my vow! A wizard's job is to vex chumps quickly in the fog.

I'm blown away by how hard every one is working to create a sentence in German to contain all letter types. I appreciate the quick fox and lazy dog so much now.

A little bit shorter than the example: Zwölf Boxkämpfer jagten Eva quer über den großen Sylter Deich.

I was there on Sylt when they chased Victor. I was like "omg* what will they do to him" *"Oh meine Großmutter"

Finnish doesn't really even have a pangram, because some of the letters in our alphabet are never actually used in the language. You would have to use English brand names or other entirely foreign words in the pangram if you wanted all the letters. Even loanwords don't have some letters. For example C, Q, W, Z and Å are practically never used in Finnish, but they are in the alphabet because it's the full Latin alphabet, with Swedish vowels added. The Swedish umlauted vowels Ä and Ö are used a lot in Finnish, but they're used differently from Swedish. Å is not used in Finnish as the Finnish letter O is pronounced the same way the "Swedish O" is in Swedish. Loanwords, especially classical words in science and history don't use these letters either... Z is usually replaced by TS or DS while X is KS. Also Q is just a K and replacing C depends on the Latin pronounciation usually and is either S or K. W is usually just a V.

Given that the origins of both the Umlaute and the Eszett is readily seen in Kurrent, good on you for including them! (The dots on an Umlaut stem from a small Kurrent e, which is two parallel downward strokes; and the Eszett is just a ligature of s and z.)

I'm currently teaching myself German just for fun, so I'm really glad I found your channel. This is absolutely fascinating!

Probably the next best German equivalent to "the quick brown fox jumps over a lazy dog"

It's not technically gibberish... It does describe a situation that could theoretically happen, after all. Even though it's rather unlikely.

To all you normal people out there who thought "bäckt" doesn't exist ... it does.

In GNOME's font preview in Swedish the pangram is this abomination (which even lacks q and z): "Flygande bäckasiner söka strax hwila på mjuka tuvor." Or it's a very old form of the Swedish language, who knows. Anyway, a better Swedish pangram (straight from the Swedish Wikipedia) would be "Yxmördaren Julia Blomqvist på fäktning i Schweiz". (GNOME is a Linux desktop environment, by the way)

Imo the best pangram in german is "Verbüß öd' Joch, kämpf Qual, zwing Styx"
