After weeks on the trail, stalking the gang in bad weather, running on sleepless nights, holding cold guns and two funerals, suffering Manuela's lamentations, Christmas away from home on guard duty, a broken wagon, and then to finally have the boys on a train only a few hours from Santa Fe, no mob was going to stop Garrett from delivering his quarry. He was no coward. He knew fear, and used it to develop a strategy of stealth and deception, that kept him and his men safe. Good guy to have on your team.

I can't like him. But he was not a coward IMO. The time from Billy's escape to when he was killed gave the Kid a chance to get away. I wonder if Apolonaria and Celsa had anything to do with that - or if Pat gave him time hoping he would skedaddle to Mexico. We don't think of the Kid as ever being depressed but I think he was after losing Charlie and Tom. We could sure use a psycologist to interpret the Kid's behavior after his escape!
