I would never start a new project with anything more than a click. Even basic beat is leading to generic stuff. I start with the musical idea (always) this can be anything. Starts with a sound, inspiring to play a certain thing in a certain tempo. Making any beat fit after the foundation is established also leads to better beats fitting the sound and groove. I always thought you made sense (and show off your gear) but you defenitly gave the best example how not to do things.... Are you trolling maybe?
