I did that!!!! I drove that gd nail right through my square!!!! Thank you very much! An old timer corrected me, as he was laughin', said somethin' about don't ever point anythin' that shoots something out TOWARD you. He gave me a pointer, told me it takes a couple extra seconds, but to just get a block of 2x4, screw it down with one screw just so the board doesn't move, then nail the opposite side. Go down the line, then reverse it. He then said you won't always do it that way, only till you got more experience with nailing your finger to the plate.

It shocks me how many people frame without a spacer. You can cut one at any job you're at

Tip: I always clamp my hand with the nail first. Just to be sure.

And the gun slips and you nail your hand to the speed square.
That way you never loose your speed square

And when that nail over shoots you can catch it with your hand. Keep your hand away from the side the nail is going to.

this also an effective way to demonstrate the shatter failure of cast magnesium speed square when "that one in a thousand^ shots deflects off a latent defect and comes up under the square... ask me how I know.

I wonder how many times he has nailed his speed square? As you may know, oftentimes nails follow the grain of a knot or whatever and don't go where intended.

bugger that. if you hit the square you will nail yourself to the job. never nail towards yourself would be my advice
