I once went on a date with a guy who acted like this...I paid for the date because I offered and had my own place. He had been jobless for 9 months and was living in assisted housing, I later found out. Like dude, what gold am I gonna dig? Your leftover chocolate coins??
Yeah, dodged a bullet. He ended up being super ableist (made fun of my hearing aids multiple times during the date, would have probably hated his reaction if I ever told him I was bipolar), antisemitic (his reasoning for me being a golddigger was because he knew I was Jewish. Yikes), and all around a bore. I ate dinner, paid for my drink, and excused myself early claiming my roommate told me my cat was puking. I do not have a roommate.

Fun story, my fiance was kind of like this when we first started dating. I let it go a couple times and then informed him that if he was asking me out and chose what to do he either needed to pay or just not see me anymore. I was struggling barely getting by not hardly able to buy my own necessities. I left my phone charger with him and asked for it back immediately and he was like āwhy not just buy another one?? I said cuz thereās nothing left in my account till next weekās paycheck. It was a huge eye opener and he did a whole turnaround after that, admitting that his friends had told him to act that way and he didnāt realize what a jerk he sounded like.
