I didn't have that reaction to Topamax. I did get concerns when my urine turned milky, which didn't seem to worry the doctors at all.
When I got a migraine that wouldn't go away they gave me opioids that just made me sick.
Now I'm in migraine hell again, with daily migraines and a neurologist appointment weeks away. Fingers crossed for a better result this time 🤞

My doctor swore topiramate could NOT have caused the absence seizures I had. They got to point I was having up to 100 a day. They even began causing audio & visual hallucinations that I started VERBALLY RESPONDING TO! I was on that for 6 months. I was also on gabapentin at the time & thought that was probably the cause.
When I got off the gabapentin I tried it again, thinking it was the combo causing the seizures. I took it for 6 months that last time. My family & I started to believe I was either having early dementia or Alzheimer's.
After 5 months I recalled a friend saying they'd got stupid when they took it. I decided to get off it, taking a month to reduce it to avoid the nasty withdrawal effects many including my primary doctor informed me of.

They put me on Carbamazepine due to the face pain I was getting. That stuff was wild! I had to relearn reflex skills like driving because I would think “break” but wouldn’t actually do it. Also never been on a drug that made me paranoid like that one. I scared myself so bad that I discontinued it after a short time

I was put on a low dose of topiramate for weight management, and it made me more tired than I had been before my sleep apnea was diagnosed and treated. And it made me feel wonky enough that even when I was awake I needed to lie down because my brain was zappy and my propioception was off.

And reading other comments about topiramate... dang! Im not falling apart, im having side effects!

Topiramate messed with my memory, ability to speak properly, kidney stones, chronic nose bleeds, messed with my emotional regulation and so many more. It worked for me, it worked really well but the side effects after taking it for so many years just got too much. I'm trying alternatives now but so far, no real success. I'm afraid I might end up back on it.
