So the real answer to that question is that it's a mix of architects following the same design trends, and some methods of construction/materials being the most cost effective at some point in time so every project builds things the same. This is far from being a new phenomenon. I can recognize around what time most buildings were made because of what the trend and cheapest construction methods were at the time
