In this recap, John Hamer from Centre Place explains that the author of Matthew fills the omissions organizing Jesus' sayings into five extensive discourses, with the Sermon on the Mount being the longest and most famous. The author of Matthew and the community to which he is speaking, are predominantly Jewish Christians who love and value the Torah or the Pentateuch. To Matthew, Jesus is the fulfillment of the law, so Matthew's gospel is organized in imitation of the Torah.

Between you and Bart Ehrman, I am getting the answers that as a child no one of authority at Catholic school could answer. They just made me feel immoral and impertinent for asking them.
So a big thank you. btw - was anyone besides me really really really curious by why God did not let Moses see the promise land?
The answers are interesting.

Thanks, John; few realize how influential the Old Testament was to the Gospel writers; your speaking on that topic has been most helpful to a better understanding of the Bible.

Wonderful insight, thank you for the ongoing religious education for this happily nonreligious, academically curious fan of your work. I first became an admirer due to your Mormon Stories episodes.
