In the movie, Connelly plays Penny Benjamin, a love interest of Maverick’s friend Goose. The first time we see her on screen, she is at a bar where the music is playing “Let’s Dance” by Bowie. This is not a coincidence, but a subtle nod to the fact that Connelly and Bowie had starred together in another movie that came out the same year: Labyrinth. In this fantasy adventure, Connelly plays Sarah, a teenager who has to rescue her baby brother from the Goblin King, played by Bowie. Labyrinth and Top Gun are very different films, but they share a common link through these two talented actors and this catchy song.
