Honestly the original 26 episode series of Neon Genesis Evangelion actually made sense to me as someone with severe depression who frequently contemplates my place in the universe and wanting to run away from all my responsibilities in life. But when the credits rolled on Evangelion 3.0+1.0 after I had just finished watching it for the first time, I have never been more confused in my life. Like the first 2 movies made total sense, and the 3rd movie still made a lot of sense even if I did get confused at times, but the 3.0+1.0 had me confused beyond belief for the last hour, I had absolutely no idea what was going or how it connected to the rest of the series.

The first time I watched MDZS I was like, okay well, there's no season 2 yet so lemme watch it from the top to understand this. Literally 5 minutes after I finished S1, I started it from the top again and rewatched it. It felt like everything properly fell into place then lol

When the red robot stoped the hand robot with just his arm, and then the music started play was such a cool moment, i legit replayed that scene like 40 times over and was just vibing out to music and enjoying the visuals (also that back flip was so clean omg)
