(by the way, just wanna say that I LOVE using Unity, it's a super fun engine that I really enjoy - I didn't have room in the script to mention all that, but if you're against Godot for whatever reason, Unity is a strong recommend from me as well)

The game that I'm developing as an indie game dev is called Isadora's Edge! A 2D Pixel Art platformer game, that I'm developing in the Godot Game Engine! If you're new to Godot or have any questions about Godot or game dev in general, feel free to ask me! #indiegame #gamedesign #godot #godotengine #gaming #gamedevelopment #pixelart #gameengine

I will never forgive Unity for being the reason Silksong was delayed for another 12 years.

The problem with companies doing this -- Unity, WotC/Hasbro, etc. -- is that even if they panic and backpedal, there's a 100% chance that they'll just find another route to screw their users that doesn't cause as much backlash.

I also really like Godot! But to be fair, there are other cool alternatives like Defold and GDevelop. Both are very promising and have their own unique features!

Probably the only downside of Godot is there are not enough content about it. Many tutorials are for beginers only. But if you have some experience on another game engine, it is not that hard to transfer that knowledge to Godot. You can basically watch/read Unity tutorials and apply them in Godot if you know what you are doing.

From how I understand it, they were not supposed to be able to change those terms of the older versions in the first place, so them promising not to do it for current ones seems more like "we recognised that doing that would just end up with legal trouble for us".

Thanks for making this video, it cements and reaffirms the decision on using the Godot game engine.

I jumped from unity to godot when i saw a new privacy policy update that said that unity could collect my project data to train an AI. I am surprised that almost no one talks about this part of unity and everyone's just focused on the runtime fee.

Btw, there's another option if you can handle it: use any of the existing frameworks like SDL/löve2d/pygame/SFML/etc. There's no editor, you have to do everything in code, and you have to implement features that are available by default in existing engines. But, you gain way more control over every aspect of your game.

The superpower of open source is that it might get better slowly, and it might fall behind, but it can never get worse. Every unity case is just another reminder that if something can go wrong it will, so support the software that can't

I like this channel alot. I am quickly able to learn not only how things work but why they work. Its way better than telling someone what to do. Thanks for your efforts

I started with Unity and I ain't stopping. I just don't want to completely relearn stuff in a new engine.

It's important to note that, as of now, you can't release Godot games for console. However, someone is working on that as we speak!

EDIT: sorry to lose the heart, but you're all correct. It is totally possible to port to consoles using Godot, it just takes a bit more work than other engines. That's not to say other engines make it easy, but it is somewhat harder in Godot.

I started my game on Unity, but I migrated to Godot for other reasons in addition to it being Open Source. I recommend it for any hobbyist Game Developer.

Mainly It's a bloated program and not very lightweight on a systems resources. Additionally, while many features are pretty nice to have I don't need all of it for a 2D/Fake-3D Shoot'em Up. Also, Unity Hub is abysmal and only gets in the way.

Pro Tip. On Godot use the Script-UI add on from the asset library. It makes the UI SO MUCH MORE LOGICAL
