Gravelly Point, Arlington, Virginia, just north of National Airport, is also a terrific place for plane spotting. You can almost touch the planes as they land and take off.

Anchorage is refueling stop for the bigger planes. A lot of the older 747s and other wide body planes don't have the "legs" to make it to Asia, so they stop here for a refuel. Even regular passenger flights will make refueling stops here. I'll have to add it to my bucket list.
